Yes. You can while away your time in a hut over the ocean. You can write while you’re there. Or make art. Or dream up lives to come.

Yes, basically, yes. We want to go to here (or perhaps recreate it on our own balcony).

This makes us think of California, where we make our home. It also makes us think of Florida, from which our Founder & Editor in chief comes. It’s hot in Florida, so palm trees make her think of humidity and fecundity and all the endless possibilities of life. May you find the possibilities in your own life.

MAKE ROOM

Make room for everything. That’s our motto. Literature, theatre, film, the content you imbibe on those little screens we all carry around in our pockets these days. Make room for it all.

Sometimes the things that catch our eye have more to do with color and mood than they do with the actual thing. Take, for example, this coat. We’re not entirely sure how we feel about it. Maybe we’d rock it with a floaty dress, but what we’re sure about is the lightness and sense of possibility it suggests when laid against the backdrop of this raspberry and ivory bone dresser, whose drawers must be full of beautiful textiles and jewels.

Pink peonies. Our favorite flowers of all time. We love the way they suggest a ripeness, a fecundity, a full-of-lifeness that we are trying to embody every day of our lives.

Don’t know where we found this picture, possibly on Solange Knowles’ My Damn Blog, but we love these women. They feel modern and period at once.

BY DESIGN

The lack of video, the lack of audio, the lack of ways to change the forking outcomes of plot (what is rather crudely referred to as “interactivity”) is a feature of literature, not a bug. And, as it turns out, books are interactive. They’re recipes for the imagination.

We think that sums it up.

This turtle knows where it comes from, and knows where it has to go. We are like this turtle, working mightily to make our way home. All this puts me in the mind of that great T.S. Eliot quote, from the Wasteland — from “Little Gidding,” in particular, the last of the four quartets, where Eliot writes:
We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time.

This woman, riding through the cobblestone streets of San Francisco in 1975, feels so modern and effortlessly sexy. A woman in charge of the moment and her own life.

This is one of those moments. The vacated room that serves up riches untold. The shoes make me think a dancer lives here, flamenco, ballroom, all that jazz. And when her feet get tired, she slides on those slippers and pours herself a drink. Here’s to life.

First read about Kiara at SousStyle.com, where she spoke about beauty in the most luminous way (Read it for yourself here: http://bit.ly/169ESuf). Then we read about the near fatal accident she had more than a decade ago, at the height of her career, and we found out from whence her deep, deep, way more than skin deep beauty comes. Gisele interviewed her good friend Kiara in Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book. Scroll down for the link below.
